What is Pond Cleaning?

Orvis Hot Springs has a seasoned “pond cleaning crew” who take on the task of thoroughly cleaning our 40 foot wide spring fed pond. This eight to ten person crew utilizes a large pump to drop the water level and two power sprayers to clean the rocks, while simultaneously skimming and sweeping the gravel bottom.

Pond cleaning requires that we close down Main and North ponds from 7:00am to 2:00pm once or twice a month, depending on the time of year. In the summer we clean the pond every two weeks and in the winter when the sun is lower and there is less algae growth we clean it every three weeks. During pond cleaning we often undertake other projects on the grounds.

When Do You Clean the Other Ponds?

• The two indoor private tubs are cleaned every morning.
• The indoor pool is vacuumed every morning and cleaned every three weeks.
• The island and smoker’s ponds are cleaned every Thursday.
• The sauna, lobster pot and cold plunge are cleaned every Friday.
